5 Tips to Pick the New Season’s Fashion Trends that Best Fit You Before You Shop

Back in the old days (I won’t say how old) when I was growing up, there were just a few fashion trends and we all would follow them. Picture this. Big hair and heavily sprayed bangs, a jacket with shoulder pads, and snow-washed jeans. Give or take, the trends back then were few, easy to identify and to follow.

Nowadays, however, with the vast amount of information available on the internet, social media, and the existence of big, medium, and smaller designer brand options on and offline, there are a lot of fashion trends that people follow every season.

It can be overwhelming! Especially, for those busy women who are juggling a family, a career, and other activities. So, how can you pick those fashion trends that best fit you, your lifestyle, and personality?

Tip #1. First and foremost, know what makes you look good. It is easier said than done. When I say that you need to know what makes you look good, I mean that you need to have absolute clarity of what style of clothes makes you look your best.

If you are not sure, consult with an image consultant. I’ve met customers in the past that know exactly the colors that make them look good, the neckline that adjusts the best to them, and the length of the clothes they should wear.

As an example of this, I will tell you about a customer that came to try our knitwear one day and said: I want to see everything you have in navy, preferably V-Necks or open cardigans, and I would like to try longer sweaters and jackets. Of course, I talked her into trying other garments just for her to see if she liked them. I was amazed to see that after she tried many sweaters, cardigans, and scarves, she ended up buying a long, navy, cardigan that allowed her to show V-Neck shirts underneath. Honestly, she looked stunning in that cardigan! It was the garment that suited her the best of all the ones she tried on.

Having that kind of clarity of what makes you look good, will allow you to choose a few of the new trends that you can follow when you go shopping and leave aside those that you shouldn’t consider. This applies even to those fashion victims out there!

Tip #2: Follow brands that decipher the latest fashion trends and translate them into wearable clothes that YOU can wear.

All you need to do is go on Facebook or Instagram and follow the brands that you like, and see the trends, outfits, and garments they offer. See if you could imagine wearing their clothes and if you think you would look good doing so.

Also look for new brands, follow them on social media and see if their clothes and their message resonate with you.

The good thing about this method is that it’s cheap and convenient. You don’t have to spend money on magazines or wait until you have time to open one. You can just check your news-feed on the go or while you wait for your appointment at the dentist’s office.

Tip #3: Follow influencers and fashion magazines online and on social media.

A good and easy way to pick new trends for the season is to google them. You will probably find some magazine articles that tell you all about the new trends. Look also for articles by some influencers that you may like.

Check out what’s out there and catch the buzz of what other people are saying. If you are one of those lucky ladies that can go to a shopping mall to window shop, then I suggest you also do that.

This will allow you to have a better idea of what’s out there. Based on that, you can narrow down 2-3 fashion trends you like for the coming season.

Tip #4: Put it all together.

After you pick 2-3 trends you like, then you can look for outfits and clothes that will match those trends, but also your style. Also, keep in mind the kind of clothes that you will need for the coming season. Will you use these clothes to go to work or maybe for social events or both? Do you have a special event or events you need to shop for? Having these things in mind will help you choose the right garments and the right outfits for you.

Tip #5: Have fun creating your outfits and shopping for them!

If you are going to choose new outfits that will speak to you and about you, you might as well have fun doing this. After all, what we wear is another expression of who we are.

Following these tips will help you choose wisely and avoid spending money in garments that you will barely use or won’t use at all. It has happened to the best of us!
